Synopsis
HKDance 45th Anniversary Celebration Grand Dance Drama
To mark the 85th anniversary this year of the birth of martial arts legend Bruce Lee, HKDance is proud to present the grand dance drama Kung Fu Artistry. Performed by professional dancers who have undergone eight years of rigorous martial arts training, the work interprets Lee’s martial arts philosophy and spirit through a dynamic fusion of strength and grace.
The production brings together a stellar team of Hong Kong’s artistic talents: Artistic Director Yang Yuntao joins hands with renowned art director Man Lim-chung (winner, Best Art Direction at the Hong Kong Film Awards) and celebrated jazz composer Patrick Lui to create a cross-genre collaboration. This vibrant blend of martial arts and dance, multimedia stagecraft, and jazz elements showcases Hong Kong’s vibrant confluence of cultures East and West while honouring and carrying forward Bruce Lee’s legacy in the martial arts.
The programme receives support from the China National Arts Fund 2025 for the creation of large-scale productions, bringing the spirit of wu dao — the path of martial arts — onto the stage, etched in light and shadow.
Kung Fu Artistry is a programme of Asia+ Festival 2025.
