Synopsis
Blending dance with martial arts and martial arts with philosophy to forge a legendary path of martial artistry — A tribute to the great martial arts master Bruce Lee!
HSBC Life proudly presents the grand dance drama Kung Fu Artistry—Bruce Lee’s No Way as Way. Inspired by Lee’s martial spirit and remarkable
life, the production traces his extraordinary spiritual journey through dance from passionate youth to Hollywood international superstar. This boundary-breaking new work fusing martial arts and dance with multimedia stagecraft and jazz elements was highly acclaimed at its 2025 premiere, honoured with 10 nominations at the 27th Hong Kong Dance Awards.
Kung Fu Artistry embarks on a three-city mainland tour from August this year and returns triumphantly to the Hong Kong stage in 2027. HKDance Artistic Director Yang Yuntao reunites with renowned art director Man Lim-chung (winner, Best Art Direction at the Hong Kong Film Awards) ,celebrated jazz composer Patrick Lui, and a stellar creative team to present an enhanced version in a richer and more multidimensional way through sophisticated visual design, choreography, and narrative depth, capturing the cinematic world of Bruce Lee and his martial philosophy.
An ensemble of professional dancers with years of dedicated martial arts training incorporates elements of Jeet Kune Do, karate, and nunchaku, combining their performance with Wing Chun as its central focus accompanied by ink-wash imagery. They deliver a nuanced portrait of Bruce Lee’s harmonious blend of strength and gentleness, form and spirit, revealing his philosophical pursuit of the “Way” in the search for self and the art of life.
The premiere in Hong Kong receives support from the China National Arts Fund 2025 for the creation of large-scale productions.
The Chengdu tour is sponsored by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department, proudly serving as the opening programme for "Hong Kong Week 2026 @ Chengdu".
