“Joy of Dance: Stories of Flowing Lights” Exhibition
Forty-five years represent not just a retrospective, but a vibrant new beginning. To celebrate its 45th anniversary, Hong Kong Dance Company (HKDance) has partnered with Harbour City to present the inaugural 45th anniversary event: the “Joy of Dance · Stories of Flowing Lights” exhibition, seamlessly integrating dance artistry into everyday life and inviting the public to experience its enchanting allure up close.
Running from April 25 to May 24, 2026, at Harbour City’s Art Gallery—a venue renowned for championing art-infused lifestyles—the exhibition will showcase a curated selection of precious artifacts intrinsically linked to HKDance’s evolution. A dedicated section below highlights key exhibits, from the artistic director’s creative manuscripts and the iconic Lip Fung costume from the classic wuxia dance drama Storm Clouds, to costume design sketches, props from landmark productions, historic posters and programmes, and behind-the-scenes footage—each piece tracing the Company’s profound artistic journey.
Curated by Lam Hiu-man, founder of the Hong Kong heritage page “Hong Kong Legacy Beauty,” alongside local designer Yuen Yung, the exhibition unearths treasures from HKDance’s intimate corners. These artifacts stand as testaments to its parallel path with the eras, where the body serves as a brush continuously scripting Hong Kong’s dance narrative.
This exhibition takes visitors behind the stage to explore Hong Kong Dance Company’s 45-year creative journey and everyday moments. Multiple photographic series reveal the troupe’s authentic daily life—from offices and rehearsal spaces to warehouses and studios—each area quietly witnessing the company’s growth and transformation while holding countless instances of creation and perseverance. On display are numerous precious artifacts, including costumes, props, posters, and tapes. These items extend beyond performances, serving as imprints of the company’s parallel path with the eras, capturing evolving artistic styles and cultural exchanges. The exhibition weaves spaces, objects, and memories into layered narratives, allowing audiences to grasp HKDance’s artistic spirit and historical footprint from multiple perspectives.

"Joy of Dance: Artistry in Harmony" Workshop
The engrossing stage performances of HKDance go hand in hand with its emphasis on arts education. This year, HKDance established the Accessibility Fund to foster a more inclusive culture, enabling people from all walks of life to participate in the arts with ease. In collaboration with Harbour City, HKDance will present the “Joy of Dance: Artistry in Harmony” workshop over three consecutive weekends from 9 to 24 May as the Fund’s inaugural major fundraising event. All proceeds from these workshops will be donated directly to the Fund by Harbour City.
Workshop highlights include a nunchaku workshop led by Lau Man‑leung, Head Coach of the Hong Kong Nunchaku Association, as well as martial arts dance experiences designed to be accessible even for participants with no prior training. HKDance will also join forces with “Inclusion Partner” ADAHK and local artists with disabilities to present a series of themed art workshops, including sand art, foot painting, collage creation and twisted‑wire bouquets.
