Guests attending the event include Mr. Chris Ip, BBS, JP, Chairman, Committee on Venue Partnership, the Leisure and Cultural Services Department; Mr. Tsang Kee-kung, MH, Broad Chairman, Hong Kong Dance Company; Ms. Meggy Cheng, Executive Director, Hong Kong Dance Company; Mr. Yang Yuntao, MH, Artistic Director, Hong Kong Dance Company; artists for Grand Dance Poem After Snowfall, internationally renowned violinist Ms. Yao Jue, SBS, JP and new media artist Mr. Chris Cheung; composer for Martial Arts Dance Drama Storm Clouds, Mr. Choi Sai-ho; renowned art director Mr. Man Lim-chung, and founder of the Hong Kong designer brand Sparkle By Karen Chan, Ms. Karen Chan, among others.

The guiding principle of 2024/25 Dance Season is “Moving Beyond Tradition”. The programmes incorporate both tradition and innovation, each unique in style.

  • A Grand Dance Poem of Calligraphy After Snowfall: Inspired by Wang Xizhi’s famous letters to his friends and involving collaborators including Ms. Yao Jue, SBS, JP as guest violin soloist and new media artist Mr. Chris Cheung, it fuses elegant melodies with innovative arts tech in the beauty of the Sage’s calligraphy.
  • A Dance of Drumming Pulses: It presents a collection of drum dances, portraying how pulse and movement encapsulate folk culture as rhythm and dance inspire us to ponder our heritage.
  • An Epic Martial Arts Dance Drama Storm Clouds: An adaptation of Ma Wing-shing’s enduring classic, the programme returns to life on stage after a near decade hiatus. Furthermore, HKDance will extend the artistic experience from the theatre to a large-scale outdoor arts tech production. Funded by Arts Technology Funding Pilot Scheme, HKDance collaborates with the very best of local arts tech personnel, providing audiences with a deeply philosophical and highly imaginative sensory journey into the world of Hong Kong’s classic comics, set against the magnificent night sky of Victoria Harbour.
  • Arts Education Theatre Dance-to-know Mulan: The Ballad of Mulan is a well-loved poem, recited generation after generation for over a millennium. The story of a maiden taking the place of her father to join the army underscores such traditional Chinese virtues as courage, loyalty, filial piety, and humility.
  • The large-scale family dance musical, Henderson Land presents The Kids in Rainbow Jerseys 2.0: more than 400 performers young and old reenact a story of perseverance and sportsmanship in song and dance, inspiring children to be steadfast and courageous while pursuing their dreams.
