Synopsis
Infusing dance with martial arts, blending combat with philosophy, forging a legendary martial arts narrative as a tribute to the esteemed martial arts master Bruce Lee!
Title sponsored by HSBC Life, the Grand Dance Drama 𝙆𝙪𝙣𝙜 𝙁𝙪 𝘼𝙧𝙩𝙞𝙨𝙩𝙧𝙮—𝘽𝙧𝙪𝙘𝙚 𝙇𝙚𝙚’𝙨 𝙉𝙤 𝙒𝙖𝙮 𝙖𝙨 𝙒𝙖𝙮 intricately weaves Bruce Lee’s martial arts spirit and remarkable life into a captivating narrative, showcasing his transformation from a passionate youth to an international star in Hollywood. This boundary-breaking creation, melding martial arts, dance, multimedia stage aesthetics, and jazz music, drew significant attention upon its premiere in 2025 and received rave reviews, culminating in the prestigious accolade of “Outstanding Performance by a Male Dancer” at the Hong Kong Dance Awards 2026.
Professional dancers, deeply rooted in years of martial arts training, skilfully portray Bruce Lee’s harmonious blend of strength and grace through techniques like Jeet Kune Do, karate, and nunchaku, combined with elements of Wing Chun and ink wash imagery. With artistic elegance, they embody his philosophical quest for self-discovery and exploration of the essence of life’s “way”.
𝙆𝙪𝙣𝙜 𝙁𝙪 𝘼𝙧𝙩𝙞𝙨𝙩𝙧𝙮 will embark on a tour of three cities in Chinese Mainland from August to November this year, returning to the Hong Kong stage in 2027. HKDance's Artistic Director, Yang Yuntao, collaborates once again with renowned Hong Kong Film Award-winning art director Man Lim-chung, acclaimed jazz composer Patrick Lui, and a team of artistic elites to create an advanced rendition that vividly depicts Bruce Lee’s martial arts spirit through a rich tapestry of theatrical language.
The premiere in Hong Kong receives support from the China National Arts Fund 2025 for the creation of large-scale productions.
The Chengdu tour is sponsored by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department, proudly serving as the opening programme for "Hong Kong Week 2026 @ Chengdu".
