Connecting Dance with Our Day-to-Day
Culture in the District
The Central and Western District Council has always shouldered the mission of benefitting the district's residents. Since 2002, Hong Kong Dance Company has been working closely with the Central and Western District Council in launching the Culture in the District Series at various venues within the district, such as Chater Garden, Sheung Wan Promenade Weekend Pedestrian Stalls, The Center, Grand Millennium Plaza, Sheung Wan Cultural Square etc. Chinese Dance performances are approximately one hour long and include interactive games and dance sessions with audience participation. Aside from dance appreciation, the series hopes these workshops may deepen the public’s understanding of dance by bringing wholesome dance-related artistic activities to the residents and students in the Central and Western District. In the longer term, participants of said events will be better armed by their increased knowledge of dance and thus have a more discerning eye and interest when entering the theatre. There will also be dance workshops that allow participants to experience the joy of dancing.

World Dance Day
In celebration of Hong Kong Dance Company and Hong Kong Dance Federation's decade long relationship with Shat Tin Town Hall through its Venue Partnership Scheme, our two organisations are proud to present the grand event World Dance Day 2022. Under the auspices of the United Nations' World Dance Day on April 29, we have planned a series of free promotional, education, and performative events to garner more district audiences and provide dance lovers with opportunities for dialogue and performances.

Chinese Folk Dance Fiesta
This biennial Folk Dance Celebration, jointly organised by Hong Kong Dance Company, Hong Kong Dance Federation, and Hong Kong Dance Alliance, shall feature over twenty elite dance talents from the local dance community or schools to dress up as folk dancers of all sorts and lead our city into a merry dance across the tribal grasslands.
This dancing spectacle attracts over 6,000 audiences annually. The event serves as a platform for elite talents from major dance institutions to display their talent and afford them an opportunity for dialogue. Concurrently, it raises the public's attention and awareness of Chinese Folk Dances and can thus better experience both the breadth and depth of Chinese culture.
