Established by former Urban Council in 1981 with the
aim of promoting Chinese dance, the Hong Kong Dance Company was formally
incorporated in April 2001 as a charitable and non-profit-making institution. It
is subvented by the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region. For more than two
decades, the Hong Kong Dance Company has staged in excess of 100 producations,
many of which were highly popular and won much acclaim from critics. Such
undertakings include The Border Town, Bashu with Glamour, King of Fairy Tales –
The Eternal Child, Red Poppies, Little Panda in a Big Big World, Dream Dances,
The Smiling, Proud Wanderer, Qingming Riverside, Angel Falls, Desperately
Seeking Miss Blossom, Mulan, We have a Dream and Snow Fox.
The Company has also performed overseas and in mainland to foster cultural
exchange. Footprints extended from Australia, United Kingdom, Korea, Singapore,
Canada, Japan, Beijing, Shanghai, Hangzhou, Guangzhou, Zhongshan, Dongguan,
Taipei and Macau and received rave response.
As a charitable organization, Hong Kong Dance
Company is actively seeking Sponsorships,
in order to promote Chinese dance and local performing arts; to advance the
level of appreciation of the general public; and to cultivate the cultural
atmosphere to achieve social harmony.
