The
Hong Kong Dance Company was established in 1981 to
promote Chinese dance. The Company has staged more than
100 productions, many of which received popular and
critical acclaim. Recent productions include Qingming
Riverside,
Angel Falls, Mulan, Everlasting Love,
Lingnan Impressions, The Smiling Proud Wanderer, Snow
Fox, Eagle Companions and
Painted Face.
The HKDC
tours internationally as well as around Mainland China
as a way to encourage cultural exchange, visiting
Australia, the United Kingdom, Korea, Singapore, Canada,
Japan, Beijing, Shanghai, Nanjing, Hangzhou, Wuhan,
Guangzhou, Zhongshan, Dongguan, Taipei and Macau. The
tours were well received by the public with rave
reviews.
Invited
by the Ministry of Culture of the People’s Republic of
China, the HKDC was the only Hong Kong dance company to
perform at the “Meet in Beijing 2008” Arts Festival at
the Olympics. This year, the Company has been invited by
the Hong Kong SAR Government to participate in the Expo
2010 in Shanghai, with two performances of Qingming
Riverside at the Shanghai Grand Theatre in July.
The HKDC
received its status as a charitable and
non-profit-making institution in April 2001, and is
financially supported by the Government of the Hong Kong
Special Administrative Region.

Su Shu
蘇淑 Su Shu
Graduated from Guangdong Dance School. She joined HKDC in 2001 and has since performed in leading roles in over 20 dance dramas and dance pieces. Her major performances include Butterfly Lovers, Evacuation Order, Suppressed Romance, The Smiling, Proud Wanderer , Mulan, Qingming Riverside and Snow Fox etc. She has also choreographed and performed for 8/F Platform – Dancers Creations, Silk-stocking Milk Tea and Embraces. She is the assistant choreographer of Angel Falls and Mulan. She excels in utilizing graceful body movements and a sophistical style in portraying different characters. She was awarded the Hong Kong Dance Awards in 2004 by her fabulous performances in Pinocchio and Four Beauties. In 2008 she won the Second Prize for Performance at the Tenth Guangdong Provincial Arts Festival with her performance in Qingming Riverside.

Xie Yin
謝茵 Xie Yin
Graduated from Guangdong Dance School and Beijing Dance Academy respectively, she won the Outstanding Choreography and Performance Award in the National Dance Competition, second prizes in choreography and performance in the Northern China Five Provinces and One City Dance Competition, Outstanding Folk Dance Performance Award in the 5th China Taoli Cup Dance Competition and Second Prize in Performance in the youth and teenagers category of the 6th China Taoli Cup Dance Competition. She joined HKDC in 2002, her recent performances include Red Poppies, Dream Dances, The Smiling, Proud Wanderer, Desperately Seeking Miss Blossom, Qingming Riverside, Mulan and Snow Fox. She also choreographed and performed for 8/F Platform – Dancers’Creations, Silk-stocking Milk Tea, Embrace, Feng Shui Xing and Hong Kong Spring. She was also the assistant choreographer of The Smiling, Proud Wanderer and Mulan. Together with Yuri Ng and other dancers, their creation and choreography in 8/F Platform – Min Jian Chuan Qi was awarded the Hong Kong Dance Awards 2006. In 2008, she was invited by Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts to create Narrative Traces – And the Thunder Sings.

Liu Yinghong
劉迎宏 Liu Yinghong
Liu Yinghong is a National First Class actor in China. He graduated from Shanghai Dance Academy, majoring in Chinese Folk Dance. He led the cast in a large-scale dance performance at the 1997 handover and has also performed in Europe, Australia and Southeast Asia. He won the Gold Medal in Hehua Cup Dance Competition 2002. His role as Liu Bang in Farewell my Concubinehe won him the Best Actor Award in 2004 Hehua Cup Dance Competition (Dance Drama Division) . He joined HKDC in 2005 . In 2007, he won the Hong Kong Dance Award by his fabulous performances as the younger brother in Red Poppies and as Linghu Chong in The Smiling, Proud Wanderer. His recent performance including as Red Poppies and 8/F Platform - Silk-stocking Milk Tea , The Smiling, Proud Wanderer, Dream Dances , The Smiling, Qingming Riverside, Mulan and Snow Fox.

Chen Jun
陳俊 Chen Jun
Chen Jun is a graduate of the secondary school affiliated with the Beijing Dance Academy. He has taken part in the large-scale dance drama The Dream of the Red Chamber, Huang He and the Variety Show to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the Founding of the Peoples Republic of China. He performed a pas de deux at the 6th China Taoli Cup Dance Competition. In March 2001, he toured the USA with the Academy. In November 2001, as special guest artist, he performed the lead role in the Hong Kong Dance Company’s (HKDC) full-length dance drama The Butterfly Lovers. Chen Jun joined HKDC in March 2002 and has since performed in The Butterfly Lovers (as Liang Shanbo) at the Shanghai Grand Theatre, The Butterfly Lovers (Re-run), Water Margin, and The Song of the Earth (as lead dancer). |

Hua Chi Yu, Tina
華琪鈺 Hua Chi Yu, Tina
Born in Taiwan, Hua Chi Yu's interest in Chinese dance began at an early age. She graduated from the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts in 2000 with a Professional Diploma. During her time in school, she toured to the United States, the United Kingdom and Prague. In 1999, she got a Hong Kong Bank Scholarship and went to Yunnan for a dance study. She joined the Hong Kong Dance Company in 2001 and appeared in its many productions. |

Huang Lei
黃磊 Huang Lei
Huang Lei graduated from the Beijing Dance Academy. He joined HKDC in 2001 and has performed in Ma & Le Visiting the Sky, The Butterfly Lovers, The Song of the Earth and in A Vast Land, A Diverse People, Fabulous Tales, Water Margin (as Wu Song) and Evacuation Order as lead dancer. His recent major performances include Farewell my Concubine as The Conqueror and King of Fairy Tales – The Eternal Child as Prince.

Ke Zhiyong
柯志勇 Ke Zhiyong
Ke Zhiyong graduated from Guangdong Dance School in 2000. He won Silver Medal at the Guangdong Province Dance Competition in 1996, and Outstanding Performance awards in the category of young dancers, Gold Medal for Chinese dance and the 3rd Prize in the Youth division at the China Taoli Cup Dance Competition in 1994, 1997 and 2000 respectively. In 2000, he came to Hong Kong for the dance drama The Princess, co-presented by the HKDC and the Guangdong Dance School. He joined HKDC in 2001 and performed as solo dancer or in the lead role in The Butterfly Lovers, Ma & Le – Visiting the Sky, Guanyin-The Goddess of Mercy, Water Margin and The Song of the Earth; and as Pinocchio in Pinocchio. He was awarded the Hong Kong Dance Awards 2005 with his performance in Teahouse Attendant and His Teapot of Bashu Spice. His recent performance was as The Eternal Child in King of Fairy Tales – The Eternal Child. |

Tang Ya
唐婭 Tang Ya
Tang Ya graduated from Beijing Dance Academy, majoring in Chinese Folk Dance. She was awarded in several scholarships and outstanding student awards, and toured to United States, France, Japan, Singapore and Korea. He won the Gold Prize of 23rd International Arts Festival in Korea; Best Performance Award in Dance Competition organized by CCTV; Jury's Award in the 5th National Dance Competition. She joined HKDC in September 2005. |

Selina Hung
熊德敏 Selina Hung
Selina Hung was one the first graduates of the Chinese Dance Department of the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts. In 1988, she took part in the China Taoli Cup Dance Competition and won a certificate of honour. She joined the Hong Kong Dance Company in the same year. Hung has performed in The Mermaid, The Story of Zhou Xuan, Suppressed Romance, Hua Pi and When the Drean Fades. She also has taken solo, pas de deux, and lead roles in many productions. She has taught evening dance courses for teachers and in a student summer dance course. |

Chen Haijing
陳海勁 Chen Haijing
Graduated from Guangdong Dance School, Chen Haijing has toured to France, Singapore, Mauritius and Malaysia for performances. He won the 3rd Prize in the Youth Division at the 7th China Taoli Cup Dance Competition; the 3rd Prize in the Young Dancer Division at the 6th China Taoli Cup Dance Competition; and Outstanding Performance Award in Hehua Cup Dance Competition. He joins HKDC in September 2005. |

Chen Rong
陳榮 Chen Rong
After graduated from the secondary school affiliated with the Beijing Dance Academy, he studied at the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts with full scholarship. He joined HKDC in November 2002. In 2005, he was granted Citigroup/Asian Cultural Council Dance Fellowship at The Ailey School for further studies. His recent major performances include Farewell my Concubine, Suppressed Romance (performances in Hong Kong and Premiere tour to Guangdong Province) , 8/F Platform – Silk-stocking Milk Tea, Little Panda in a Big Big World, The Smiling, Proud Wanderer as Dongfang Bubai (re-run and Shanghai Performances), Mulan, Qingming Riverside and Snow Fox. In 2008, he won the Hong Kong Dance Award by his fabulous performances as the Hu Le in Angel Falls and as Dongfang Bubai in The Smiling, Proud Wanderer.

Ho Kin
何健 Ho Kin
Ho Kin graduated from the Guangdong Dance School in 1996, majoring in Chinese Dance. While still a student, he was the lead dancer in the major dance production Huang Tu Huang. In 1996, he participated in the opera Turandot. Since joining the Hong Kong Dance Company (HKDC) in 1997, he has appeared in Ju Dou, Yellow River, The Story of Zhou Xuan, The Spirit is Willing, Journey to the West - The Monkey King Thrice Beats the Bony Ghost and as Second Brother in the original musical Border Town, jointly presented by HKDC and the Actors’ Family. He has consistently been popular with audiences. Recently his major performances include Suppressed Romance of Classical Retrospective as A Jiu and King of Fairy Tales – The Eternal Child as Young Man. |

Kong Lai-ming
江麗明 Kong Lai-ming
Having developed a keen interest in dance at an early age, Kong Lai-ming entered the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts to receive four years of training in Chinese dance and joined the Hong Kong Dance Company in 1991. She has performed in Journey to the West - The Monkey King at Mount Inferno as Princess Iron Fan, the re-run of Journey to the West -The Monkey King Thrice Beats the Bony Ghost as the Bony Ghost, and The Butterfly Lovers as Zhu Yingtai. |

Mi Tao
米濤 Mi Tao
Hui, Mi Tao was graduated from the secondary school affiliated with the Beijing Dance Academy in 2001. He then gained scholarship to further study at Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts majoring in Chinese Dance. During the period he had performed in The Butterfly Lovers and Pinocchio, toured France, Vienna, Belgium and Hawaii, and won Second Class Prize in group dance division in the 7th China Taoli City Dance Competition. In addition to his passion in dance performance, Tao had also expressed his talent in choreography in Wine of Lord in Hi Again Zhao Fei Yan……. Recently he performed as Ming De in Classical Retrospective and as Snow Man in King of Fairy Tales – The Eternal Child.

Peng Rongrong
彭蓉蓉 Peng Rongrong
Graduated 2001 from Guang dong Dance Academy and 2004 from Huanan College of Arts tertiary course, Peng was a dancer in Guangdong Art Troupe when still in school. She starred in Women Square which won the Guangdong Dance Gala Competition Gold Award and Guangdong Province Choice Repertoire Distinction Award, and Guangzhou Memoir , which won the Third Grade Prize in the National Dance Drama Competition and Silver Award in Guangdong Province Arts Festival. She enrolled int APA Professional Diploma course in 2004 and joined Hong Kong Dance Company in November 2005. She starred in dance drama Zhou Xuan and Suppressed Romance (2005 Classical Retrospective and Guangdong Tour). |

Kaman Poon
潘嘉雯 Kaman Poon
Kaman Poon graduated in Chinese Dance from the Hong Kong Academy For Performing Arts in 1997. In 1996, she received a Hong Kong Bank Scholarship to continue her training at the Beijing Dance Academy. She received a Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts Society Scholarship in 1997. In the same year, Poon participated in the 5th China Taoli Cup Dance Competition and was awarded a special Judges’ award for her solo dance The Spirit of Orchids. After graduation she was a performer and dance instructor in various performing arts groups and schools before joining the Hong Kong Dance Company in 2001. |

Charley Wong
王林 Charley Wong
Charley Wong developed a keen interest in drama and dance at an early age. He joined the Hong Kong Dance Company in 1986 and has performed in Jade Love, Dagger Society, The First Emperor of Qin, Ju Dou, Journey to the West and The Story of Zhou Xuan. His productions for the Company include Who's Wrong, Escape from Troubled Times and Titanic. His recent creations were Dragon Passion5000, Swear Never to Bow One’s Head and Aladdin of HKDC’s Fabulous Tales. He earned an Advanced Teaching Certificate from the Beijing Dance Academy in 2000. Recent major performances include King of Fairy Tales – The Eternal Child as The Emperor. |

Wu Kam-ming
胡錦明 Wu Kam-ming
Graduated from the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts, Wu attended the Beijing Dance Institute on a scholarship and was among the top 10 best performers in the Folk Dance Section in the Taoli Cup Dance Competition. Wu has performed in Journey to the West as The Monkey King; and Pinocchio as Pinocchio. He was the rehearsal assistant for Yellow River and assistant choreographer for The Butterfly Lovers. He is also actively involved in co-choreography including Motion & Emotion, The 1st Round: Men's Single Combat and The Party of Zhao Fei Yan and Bob Foss. Wu is a guest instructor at the HKAPA. In 2003 he was selected as one of the outstanding dance artists for the “Hong Kong Dance Hall of Fame”. |

Xu Qiang
徐強 Xu Qiang
Graduated from the Beijing Dance Academy with a major in folk dance, Xu Qiang won Bronze Prize at the Fifth Lotus Cup National Dance Competition with his role as Tiger in the Chinese dance drama Wild Fields. He participated in the male group dance The Closest to the Sun which won the First Class Award at the 8th Peach and Plum Cup Dance Competition and the Ninth Beijing Dance Competition. He created the dance piece Perhaps Lost before graduation and received the Bronze Prize at the Shenzhen Dance Competition. He joined the Hong Kong Dance Company in 2007.

Carmen Yau
丘文紅 Carmen Yau
Carmen Yau graduated from the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts in 1990, majoring in Chinese Dance. She joined the Hong Kong Dance Company in the same year and has performed in Suppressed Romance as Su Juan, The Possessed as The Mother and Guanyin – The Goddess of Mercy as Guanyin in Splendid Attire. In 1999, Yau choreographed the dance drama Mulan for children, and won First Prize in the Modern Dance Division at the 19th Shatin District Dance Competition. She is now also one of the dance instructors in the evening dance courses of the Hong Kong Dance Company.

Yung Lai-Wah
翁麗華 Yung Lai-Wah
Yung started to learn Chinese dance when she was six in Christine Liao School of Ballet. She awarded Grade 8 in the Royal Academy of Dance Examination and the Intermediate Level Examination. She graduated from Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts with Professional Diploma in 2006, and joined HKDC. Recently she performed in Qingming Riverside.
